Locked Fire Escape

As part of trying to exercise more I usually take the stairs if only going ip a few floors. Though yesterday when I did that I slipped and spilt my coffee all over the staircase. It was dark the the motion sensor on the lights only works when you are standing directly under it. Essentially, it is only useful to you when you are on the landing. It's probably like that because the fire escape has a very high ceiling though it could be any number of things.

So I am walking up the stairs sans coffee this time when I come to the 4th floor landing (which is marked by an "F" not a "4" if you take the elevator/lift) and Itry to open the door only to find that it is locked from the other side. Now, I like to think that any sensible person would be shocked at discovering this, especially since there was a fire in the adjacent building only two months ago and because of the smoke we had to evacuate. My supervisor, as well as other supervisors at our kindergarten, thought I was joking. Which of course led me to ask myself "What kind of sicko do they think I am? Someone that would lock a kindergarten's fire escape??".

To be fair, I have been thought of much worse than that though.
